7 Best Happy Hours in Saigon

With around ten million people, Saigon offers the same highs and lows as any major city but with numerous unique positives. But for those seeking to avoid full-priced drinks, navigating the happy hour options can be tricky. In this blog post, I will go through some of my favorite happy hour spots in Saigon.

Happy Hours? Why Not?

Seriously, happy hours are one of my favorite topics. Coming from Scotland, there’s a stereotype that we don’t like to spend money, and I have to admit, it’s pretty accurate. I mean, who actually likes spending more money than they have to? If you can save money, why wouldn’t you? 

I’m excited to share some of my favorite happy hour spots in Saigon. These places not only offer great deals but also provide fantastic experiences. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, these recommendations might help you find your new favorite spot to unwind and enjoy a drink.

However, if you have a happy hour and it’s a “buy two, get one free” deal, that’s not a happy hour to me. If I go by myself, I have to buy two beers or two drinks to get the third one free, which means I need to consume a minimum of three drinks. Therefore, I would prefer “buy one, get one free” or at least 50 percent off.

The Top 7 Happy Hour Hotspots in Saigon

Let’s explore my top picks for happy hour havens in Saigon. Here’s a closer look at each one:

1. 86 Proof – Daily 4-7pm, 50% off all drinks

It’s no surprise to anyone living in Saigon that 86 Proof has been nominated again for the best happy hour in the city. If you live here, you know and love it. If you’re visiting, it’s a must-visit spot. Run by Jason and Rochelle, this venue has become a stalwart in Saigon’s Thao Dien area. The bar offers a daily happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. with a generous 50 percent off all drinks. 

Their cocktails are legendary, with the Espresso Martini, Espresso Negroni, and Whiskey Sour standing out. The Whiskey Sour, in particular, has an almost magical quality that my wife and I measure every other Whiskey Sour against. The location on Xuan Thuy is perfect for people-watching, making it not just about the drinks but the whole experience.

2. Mami (Daily 4-8pm, 50% off drinks)

Just a few doors down from 86 Proof, you’ll find Mami, another spot where Jason, and presumably Rochelle, have their influence. Mami recently opened in what used to be Valhalla, a hot dog place, transformed into a beautifully designed bar. With a happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m., they offer 50 percent off on drinks, and the cocktails here are crafted with incredible skill. The interior, with its low roof and mahjong tile bar, makes for a cozy and visually appealing atmosphere. The talent in Saigon for creating such amazing venues and cocktails never ceases to amaze me.

3. The Company (Fri-Sat 6-9pm, 50% off drinks)

To extend your happy hour journey, head to The Company on Pham Viet Chanh. Their happy hour runs from 6 to 9 p.m., offering 50 percent off drinks. This small, intimate cocktail bar has about eight seats downstairs and allows dogs, making it perfect for a visit with Biscuit. The cocktails here are top-notch, and the overall vibe is relaxed and welcoming. It’s a place I’ve been wanting to visit for a while, and it did not disappoint.

4. Layla (Mon-Sat 5-8pm, 50% off tap beer and selected cocktails)

Established as one of the pioneers of Saigon’s upscale cocktail scene, Layla remains a popular choice. This was one of the first really nice cocktail bars I experienced in the city. Their happy hour runs from Monday to Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m., with 50 percent off tap beer and a selection of cocktails for just 95k. 

The Salted Caramel Espresso and Whiskey Sour are highlights. Layla continues to be a favorite among locals and visitors alike for its excellent drinks and vibrant atmosphere.

5. Two Guys Belgian Fries (Daily 5-7pm, 50% off craft beers)

If you find yourself in Thanh My Loi in District 2, Two Guys Belgian Fries is the place to go. Their happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. offers 50 percent off their craft beers, right as the sun sets. The location on the canal provides a picturesque setting, perfect for enjoying a few beers and some delicious Belgian fries. It might be a bit out of the way for most people, but it’s definitely worth the trip for the relaxing atmosphere and great deals.

Grab a seat by the canal, enjoy the sunset views, and indulge in their 50% off craft beers alongside their famous Belgian fries.

6. Café des Stagiaires (Happy hour specials, best sunset view)

Located in the heart of Thao Dien, Café des Stagiaires, or to me De Staggs, offers an unbeatable sunset view from its rooftop. They have various happy hour specials, not strictly buy one, get one free, but still very attractive. The combination of great drinks, cool people, and the best sunset spot in Saigon makes this a must-visit.

The venue also boasts a dance floor and a performance space, making it a versatile spot for those seeking entertainment after happy hour.

7. Social Club Saigon (Daily 3-7pm, 50% off selected drinks)

For a more upscale experience, the Social Club at Hotel Des Arts in District 1 offers a stunning view of the city. Nestled within the luxurious Hotel Des Arts, Social Club Saigon provides a touch of elegance to your happy hour experience. While it might be pricier than other options on the list, the 50% discount on selected drinks during happy hour makes it more accessible. Soak in the stunning city views and enjoy the sophisticated ambiance.

Just remember, the prices are plus VAT and service charge, but the experience is well worth it.

So that is my list of seven favorite happy hours in Saigon. I realize I’ve made myself sound like a stereotypical Scottish person who doesn’t want to spend money. I’m very aware of that. And yes, I also sound like an alcoholic. But I’ve put this together just for you.
